The Houdini Tank: Ivy
2003·18 min
Ivy steps up, eager to test the Houdini Tank. She strips without hesitation, bare skin catching the harsh light. Her ankles are bound first. Thick rope bites deep. A heavy iron weight is knotted tight against bone, dragging her feet toward the bottom before the water even starts. The lid drops. Locks snap shut. When the flood begins, she thrashes but the weight holds her down. Every inch the surface rises, the chain drags harder. Her lungs burn. She strains upward, wrists still free but useless. The level passes her mouth and still climbs. She fights, muscles corded, nipples stiff in the cold rush. Bubbles burst from her nose, frantic, until the last pocket of air is gone. She jerks once, twice, muscles locked in panic. The camera catches the moment her body finally understands: down is the only way, or not at all.
